From the moment she stepped into Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Divyang Mulanche Balgruha, Mankhurd at just six years old, Kavita Chavan radiated energy and determination. Diagnosed with an intellectual disability and hearing impairment, she never let her challenges define her. Instead, she found her voice through sports, caregiving, and perseverance.
In 2010, she made history—winning a silver medal in Handball at the Special Olympics in Athens, Greece. It was the first time a girl from the Home had reached such heights. Her dedication, discipline, and resilience turned her into a true champion.
Beyond sports, Kavita’s compassion became her greatest strength. She took on the role of bedside assistant, caring for sick children with tenderness and patience. Her ability to communicate beyond words made her an irreplaceable part of the Home.
With training from Pratham Institute, she secured a job in Aurangabad as housekeeping staff, taking another step towards independence. Kavita’s journey proves that disabilities do not limit dreams—they only make victories more inspiring. Today, she stands as a symbol of strength, kindness, and unwavering spirit.
