Established in 1927, the Dongri Observation and Children's Home is one of the oldest and most significant child care institutions in India. The home has evolved over the decades into a comprehensive residential facility serving children across a spectrum of vulnerability, for children in conflict with the law (CICL) and children in need of care and protection (CNCP).

Located in South Mumbai, the home caters to both boys and girls aged 12 to 18 years, offering them a safe, nurturing, and rehabilitative environment.

Historically, this facility was once Dongri Jail, where prominent Indian freedom fighters like Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Veer Savarkar, and Gopal Agarkar were imprisoned during British rule. In 1927, it was converted into an Observation and Children's Home.

Children arriving here come from varied backgrounds—some rescued from trafficking or abuse, others diverted from the juvenile justice system. Regardless of their past, each child is met with compassion, dignity, and a structured care plan that supports healing, learning, and growth.

The Dongri Observation and Children’s Home functions not only as a place of shelter but also as a dynamic ecosystem of transformation. Through dedicated services in education, skill development, mental health, legal aid, and creative expression, the Home prepares children for a stable, independent future. It is a space where stories of abandonment turn into narratives of hope, resilience, and possibility.
