Chanki Pande arrived at Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Divyang Mulanche Balgruha, Mankhurd under a CWC court order, when he was just 12 years old. He was diagnosed with mild intellectual disability. Despite his challenges, he showed an eagerness to learn and grow, embracing education, sports, and life skills training with enthusiasm.

With dedicated special education, he successfully passed his 10th standard NIOS exam, proving his determination. His love for dance and sports led him to participate in the 36th Children’s Meet at Shanmukhanand Hall, and his talent in handball earned him a place in the 2023 Special Olympics Bharat preparatory camp in Delhi.

Recognizing his interest in cleanliness and organization, the Home provided him with training in housekeeping and office assistance. He learned record-keeping, file management, and basic computer skills, excelling in his assigned responsibilities. With structured rehabilitation, he was later enrolled in a vocational training program at Pratham Institute, Aurangabad, where he specialized in professional housekeeping.

In August 2022, he secured a job at a hotel in Mahabaleshwar, starting as a trainee in housekeeping. His commitment and work ethic quickly earned him praise, and within a few months, he was promoted to handle guest room upkeep and overall cleanliness management. His supervisors appreciated his attention to detail and discipline, leading to further responsibilities in inventory handling and team coordination.

After a year of consistent hard work and successful follow-ups, Chanki received his permanent release from the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). Now, he stands as an independent, self-sufficient young man, earning a livelihood and contributing to society.

Chanki’s journey is a testament to how dedication, structured support, and the right opportunities can transform lives. From a child in need of care to a skilled professional, he embodies the power of perseverance and hope.
