About Us
A Legacy of Care and Commitment
The Children’s Aid Society (CAS) was established in 1927 as a government initiative dedicated to protecting and empowering vulnerable children. Inspired by the Bombay Children’s Act of 1924, Sir Ernest Hotson, alongside a group of committed social workers, laid its foundation, with Sir Leslie Wilson as President and E. B. Hotson as Chairman.
A pivotal moment came on May 1, 1927, with the opening of the first Remand Home in Umerkhadi, South Bombay, led by M. K. Davis and Sr. Magistrate P. L. Thacker. Since then, nearly lakhs of children have found safety, care, and hope within its walls of Children's Aid Society.
Our Story
What began as a small initiative has grown into a lifeline for lakhs of children. Today, CAS operates seven children’s homes and two educational institutions, providing care, education, and rehabilitation for over 2,500 children daily.
Over the decades, CAS has been recognized by India’s most esteemed leaders, including Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, and Mother Teresa, who visited and acknowledged its invaluable work.
CAS remains a beacon of hope, welcoming philanthropists, social workers, and scholars who contribute to its mission. With strong management and leadership, CAS continues its unwavering commitment to ensuring every child has the opportunity for a brighter future
