A Story of Strength and Hope

Angel (name changed), a deaf and mute girl, arrived at the Children’s Home in July 2019, brought in by the police. With her kind nature and expressive eyes, she quickly became a favorite among staff and fellow children. Though she had no known family, the Home worked tirelessly to secure her orphan certificate, ensuring her legal recognition and protection.
Angel faced a serious medical condition—Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) in her right earlobe, where blood vessels were abnormally tangled, disrupting blood flow and oxygen supply. Even a small push could cause dangerous bleeding, and if ruptured in the brain, it could lead to a fatal stroke. Despite frequent pain and weekly treatment at KEM Hospital, Angel remained strong.
Plastic Surgeon Dr. Chandrashekhar at KEM Hospital recommended urgent surgery, but the cost was a major hurdle. Home Superintendent Rahul Kanthikar and the team worked relentlessly, securing funds from a generous donor. With the Child Welfare Committee's approval, the surgery took place on April 5, 2021, lasting six hours and ending in success.
Angel spent a month recovering at KEM Hospital under the care of the Home’s probation officer and medical staff. After surgery, she received a hearing aid and continued regular checkups. Now rehabilitated in an institute near Mumbai, she is pursuing a beautician course, embracing a future filled with hope and confidence.
